What's Happening?
Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) has announced that the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) will receive a $20 million federal grant. This funding is designated for renovations to the Green Line light rail platforms in Cleveland, Ohio.
The grant comes from the All Stations Accessibility Program (ASAP), which was established and funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Congresswoman Brown, who voted for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in 2021, also provided an official letter of support for GCRTA's funding request in April. The project aims to upgrade 11 stations along the Light Rail Green Line, replacing 40-year-old platforms with new concrete ones, installing tactile warning panels, redesigning ramps, replacing sidewalks, elevating a platform section for train access, and improving parking stalls. GCRTA General Manager and CEO, India L. Birdsong Terry, stated that once completed, every rail station in their system will be ADA accessible.
