What's Happening?
Union Maritime has successfully completed the maiden voyage of its new wind-assist tanker, Brands Hatch, which achieved over a third of its propulsion power from wind under favorable conditions. The vessel is equipped with BAR Technologies' WindWings, allowing it to save substantial amounts of fuel while maintaining high sailing speeds in challenging weather. During its first voyage, Brands Hatch replaced 12.8 tonnes of fuel in 24 hours, equating to 13 tonnes of CO2 avoided per WindWing per day. This marks the beginning of Union Maritime's rollout of a fleet of wind-assisted vessels, which will be the largest of its kind worldwide, ensuring compliance with international environmental standards through to 2030.
