What's Happening?
The U.S. Space Force has selected 15 companies to compete for a contract worth up to $981 million to develop advanced training systems. This initiative, known as the National Space Test and Training Complex Innovative Technology and Engineering — Space Test and Range
Capability Development (NITE-STAR), aims to enhance military space training by creating a network of physical ranges and simulated environments. The contract, which spans a five-year base period with a one-year option, involves building satellites, sensors, and systems to simulate adversary behavior and electronic warfare. The selected companies include major defense contractors such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin Space, and Northrop Grumman, among others. The Space Systems Command received 20 bids for this contract, which is structured as an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity vehicle, allowing for flexibility in task orders.
