What's Happening?
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has initiated an agricultural recovery program in the South Ubangi province, aimed at supporting 2,000 farmers. This initiative, known as the South Ubangi Agricultural Recovery Program (PRASUB), is a collaborative
effort between the Ministry of National Economy, the FOREC fund, and the development organization CDI-Bwamanda. The program is designed to enhance food production, improve rural infrastructure, and bolster food security. It includes providing technical and material support to farmers, strengthening farmers' organizations, rehabilitating 290 kilometers of farm-to-market roads, constructing storage and processing facilities, and distributing agricultural inputs and equipment. This launch follows Vice Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Daniel Mukoko Samba's visit to the provinces of South Ubangi and Mongala in October 2025, where he assessed the challenges to agricultural development.
Why It's Important?
The agricultural recovery program is crucial for the economic development of South Ubangi province, which borders the Central African Republic. By improving food production and infrastructure, the program aims to enhance food security and support local producers. This initiative is part of the DRC government's broader strategy to revive domestic agricultural production and advance food sovereignty. The program's success could serve as a model for other regions facing similar challenges, potentially leading to increased agricultural productivity and economic stability in the DRC.
