What's Happening?
CoSN and SETDA, in collaboration with UDT, have released Sustainability Procurement Guidelines to assist K-12 schools in making environmentally responsible technology purchases. The guidelines focus on energy efficiency, recyclable materials, product
lifespan, e-waste reduction, repairability, and vendor practices. These measures aim to reduce environmental impact and operational costs while promoting responsible leadership in educational technology procurement.
Why It's Important?
The guidelines provide a framework for schools to make sustainable technology decisions, potentially reducing costs and environmental impact. By prioritizing energy efficiency and durability, schools can extend the life of their technology investments and model responsible practices for students and communities. This initiative aligns fiscal responsibility with environmental sustainability, setting a precedent for future procurement strategies in education.
