The Bangs Lake Outfall Improvement Project in Wauconda, Illinois, has successfully mitigated flooding issues following recent heavy rainfall. Completed in mid-May, the $3.5 million project involved upgrading nearly 4,000 feet of streams and channels to
alleviate flooding for over 70 properties and eight roads. The project replaced an outdated manual system with new remote monitoring tools, a retaining wall, storm sewer, and box culverts. This initiative was partially funded by a $2.7 million grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, with additional funding from the village's budget. The improvements have already shown effectiveness, as noted by Jake Mann, Wauconda's public works director, who reported that the new system is efficiently managing water levels in Bangs Lake.
