What's Happening?
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has commenced construction on a significant renewable energy project valued at Dh22 billion ($5.99 billion). This initiative, developed by Masdar in collaboration with Emirates Water
and Electricity Company, features a 5.2 gigawatt solar photovoltaic power plant integrated with a 19 gigawatt-hour battery energy storage system. The project aims to deliver 1 gigawatt of continuous clean power at a competitive tariff. It is expected to be the world's largest solar and battery storage project, marking a pivotal moment for the renewable energy sector. The project is anticipated to offset 5.7 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually and create over 10,000 jobs.
