What's Happening?
The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry has announced the selection of 14 high school seniors to join the 2026-27 Oklahoma Agriculture Youth Council. Among these students, four are from Southwest Oklahoma: Cooper Davidson and Audrey
Warner from Lawton, Kashen Todd from Cache, and Bailey Matlock from Cement. The council members will engage in a year-long program that includes approximately seven sessions and various volunteer opportunities. These sessions will involve visits to agricultural companies and organizations, learning about the legislative process, and job shadowing with industry professionals.
Why It's Important?
The inclusion of students in the Oklahoma Agriculture Youth Council is significant as it provides young individuals with firsthand experience in the agricultural sector, which is a vital part of Oklahoma's economy. By participating in this council, students gain insights into the legislative processes that affect agriculture, potentially inspiring future leaders in the industry. This initiative also helps bridge the gap between education and practical experience, fostering a new generation of informed and engaged citizens who can contribute to the state's agricultural development.
