What's Happening?
East Midlands Railway (EMR) is testing a new ticketless train travel system using a location-based app that automatically calculates fares. The trial, which began in September 2025, involves up to 1,000 participants traveling between Derby, Leicester,
and Nottingham. The app tracks passengers' locations and charges the best fare at the end of the day.
