What's Happening?
Health Net, a Medi-Cal managed care health plan and part of Centene Corporation, has announced a $3 million investment in the Sacramento region. This funding aims to enhance housing stability and infrastructure through partnerships with the Sacramento Area
Council of Governments (SACOG) and Mutual Housing California. The investment includes $2 million allocated to SACOG's Green Means Go program, which supports infrastructure for at least 50 affordable housing units in Sacramento County. Additionally, $1 million is directed towards Mutual Housing California to provide permanent affordable housing for over 100 seniors in the second phase of the San Juan Apartments. This initiative is part of a broader effort to create healthier, more connected communities by aligning housing and infrastructure development.
Why It's Important?
The investment by Health Net is significant as it addresses the critical need for affordable housing and infrastructure in Sacramento County. By supporting projects like the Green Means Go program and the San Juan Apartments, the initiative aims to improve living conditions for seniors and other residents, potentially reducing healthcare costs and improving overall community health. The collaboration between healthcare providers and housing organizations highlights the interconnectedness of health and living environments, emphasizing the importance of stable housing in achieving better health outcomes. This approach could serve as a model for other regions facing similar challenges, demonstrating the potential benefits of cross-sector partnerships in addressing social determinants of health.
What's Next?
The partners involved in this initiative will continue to advance planning and predevelopment work for the San Juan Apartments Phase Two and support upcoming Green Means Go infrastructure activities across the region. These efforts are expected to further enhance community resilience by linking healthcare, social services, housing, and infrastructure. The ongoing collaboration aims to create more vibrant and sustainable communities, with a focus on providing stable environments that support healthier lives for residents.
