What's Happening?
APM Terminals has become a 49% minority shareholder and operating partner in the Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal (HHIT) in Vietnam. This partnership follows three years of collaboration in developing the terminal from a greenfield project
to operational status. HHIT, located in Haiphong City, is the largest deep-water port in North Vietnam, facilitating direct import and export between Vietnam and European and American markets. APM Terminals has contributed expertise in safety, port automation, artificial intelligence, and decarbonization. The terminal is part of the Gemini Cooperation, a network operated by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd.
Why It's Important?
APM Terminals' investment in HHIT signifies a strategic commitment to enhancing Vietnam's maritime infrastructure. This partnership is expected to boost trade efficiency and sustainability, benefiting both local and international markets. The collaboration may lead to increased economic activity in the region, supporting Vietnam's position as a key player in global trade. The use of advanced technologies and practices can set new standards for port operations, potentially influencing other ports in the region to adopt similar innovations.
