for a pedometer called 'Manpo-kei,' meaning '10,000 steps meter.' The new research, published in The Lancet Public Health, indicates that significantly fewer steps can still provide substantial health benefits. Dr. Sean Heffron, assistant professor of medicine at New York University Langone Health, noted that many fitness tracker users aim for 10,000 steps without realizing its non-scientific origin. The study found that individuals achieving around 7,000 daily steps experienced a 47% lower risk of death from all causes, a 25% lower risk of cardiovascular disease, and a 38% lower risk of dementia compared to those taking approximately 2,000 steps.
