What's Happening?
At the Pennsylvania Farm Show, Penn State Extension introduced 'Tilva', an AI-powered system on their PlantVillage platform. This tool provides farmers with science-based information on agriculture, food,
and the environment. Users can interact with the system by asking questions or uploading images to identify pests, diseases, and plants, and interpret soil test results. Tilva, tested internally for six months, also offers workshops, online courses, and certificate programs tailored to user interests.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of Tilva represents a significant step forward in smart agriculture, leveraging AI to enhance farming efficiency and sustainability. By providing real-time, data-driven insights, Tilva helps farmers make informed decisions, potentially increasing crop yields and reducing losses due to pests and diseases. This technology supports the agricultural sector's shift towards precision farming, which is crucial for addressing global food security challenges and adapting to climate change.
