What's Happening?
The Greensburg/Decatur Economic Development Corporation (EDC) has awarded more than $13,000 in Workforce Preparation Teacher Grants to local educators. These grants aim to support hands-on career exploration
and workforce readiness for students in Decatur County. Funded by sponsors such as Honda and Decatur County Memorial Hospital, the grants will enable schools to implement projects that enhance STEM education, entrepreneurship, and career exploration. Initiatives include new scientific equipment for St. Mary’s School and a construction-focused STEM area at Greensburg Elementary.
Why It's Important?
These grants play a crucial role in preparing students for future careers by providing them with practical, real-world learning experiences. By investing in STEM education and career exploration, the EDC is helping to build a skilled workforce that can meet the demands of local industries. This initiative not only benefits students by enhancing their employability but also supports the economic development of Decatur County by fostering a pipeline of talent for local businesses. The collaboration between educators and industry partners is essential for creating sustainable educational programs that align with workforce needs.
What's Next?
The EDC plans to continue expanding its Workforce Teacher Grant program, with the 2026 Opportunity Expo scheduled for February 18. This event will provide students with direct access to professionals and organizations, further enhancing their career readiness. Businesses interested in supporting future grants are encouraged to collaborate with the EDC. As these programs grow, they are expected to have a lasting impact on the community by strengthening the connection between education and industry.
