The Ministry of Labour and Social Security in Jamaica is launching a disaster self-reporting form to allow householders to electronically report damage or loss from Hurricane Melissa. This initiative aims
to reach individuals who were missed during the ministry's on-ground damage assessments. The form will be accessible on the ministry's website, and its submission will prompt a visit from an assessor to gather detailed information. The Jamaica Household Damage, Impact and Needs Assessment (JHDINA) tool is being used to conduct these assessments, with 17,000 household damage assessments completed so far. The data collected is digitized to enhance speed, accuracy, and accessibility. As of November 20, 96% of the data has been entered into the JHDINA system, revealing that 44% of assessed sites sustained severe damage.
