Humanity Hale, a Hawai'i Island nonprofit established in 2019, is actively seeking land to develop transitional housing for youth aging out of foster care. The organization, which provides culturally grounded preventative care including education, therapy,
life skill development, and mentorship, has raised $500,000 for land acquisition, with over $100,000 secured at a recent gala. According to Charis Higginson, founder and executive director, the goal is to prevent homelessness and addiction among this vulnerable demographic, as current transitional housing options on Hawai'i Island's west side are scarce. Humanity Hale aims to acquire three to five acres to build not only transitional housing but also a community center and a group foster home.
