Tacora Resources, a mining company operating the Scully Mine in Wabush, Labrador, is investigating the potential to upgrade the purity of its ore to supply manganese, a critical mineral. The company plans to send a shipment to a facility in China to experiment
with the mineral. Tacora's general manager, Graham Letto, stated that there are approximately 3 million tonnes of ore stockpiled at Scully, with a manganese byproduct content of about 17 percent. Manganese is essential for battery production, vehicle electrification, and the green steel industry. Currently, Tacora has about 40,000 tonnes ready and aims to increase this to 50,000 tonnes before proceeding.
