What's Happening?
Hundreds of individuals, many adorned in pink attire, participated in the annual 'Making Strides of Northern Vermont' walk in South Burlington on Sunday. This event, organized by the local chapter of the American Cancer Society, aims to raise funds for
breast cancer research and support programs during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Before the walk commenced, breast cancer survivors and 'thrivers' were invited to the stage to share their remission journeys. Daria Bishop, a Williston resident, shared her seven-year survival story, while Heather Payea, a 12-year survivor, highlighted the community aspect of the event. Forty-three teams collectively raised over $43,000, with organizers expressing a goal to double this amount to $88,000. Donations are still being accepted. A separate 'Making Strides of Southern Vermont' chapter is also fundraising for an upcoming walk at Vermont State University, Castleton campus, scheduled for October 18, with a fundraising target of $55,000.
