WhyHunger, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending hunger and advancing the human right to nutritious food, is seeking an Events Specialist. This role, part of the Development team, will be responsible for coordinating the planning, project management,
and execution of various fundraising and cultivation events. The specialist will report to the head of Institutional Giving and will eventually lead the day-to-day planning for major annual events such as the Chapin Awards Gala, Hungerthon Hustle, and Amplified concert. Additionally, the role involves coordinating donor site visits, smaller cultivation events, and artist activations. The Events Specialist will manage event consultants, coordinate logistics with vendors, and ensure internal teams are aligned on responsibilities and deadlines. This hybrid position is based in the NYC Metro area and requires occasional evening and weekend availability for events and related travel. The organization, founded in 1975, focuses on addressing the root causes of hunger and building a more just food system both in the U.S. and globally.
Why It's Important?
The hiring of an Events Specialist is crucial for WhyHunger's continued efforts to secure funding and engage supporters in its mission. Effective event coordination directly impacts the organization's ability to raise necessary capital, which in turn funds its programs aimed at combating food insecurity. Successful fundraising events allow WhyHunger to provide critical resources to grassroots movements and community-led solutions. This role ensures that donor engagement is maximized, fostering stronger relationships with individuals and institutions that contribute to the cause. By streamlining event planning and execution, WhyHunger can allocate more resources directly to its core mission, enhancing its impact on communities struggling with hunger and advocating for food justice. The specialist's work will directly contribute to the financial health and operational capacity of an organization working to address a fundamental human need.
What's Next?
The selected Events Specialist will immediately begin integrating into WhyHunger's Development team, taking on responsibilities for upcoming events. Their initial focus will likely involve familiarizing themselves with existing event strategies, vendor relationships, and internal processes. The specialist will work closely with Development and Communications colleagues to align event themes, messaging, and promotional efforts. They will also collaborate with Program colleagues to ensure that WhyHunger's mission and community partners are effectively integrated into event experiences. Over time, the role is expected to evolve into a primary planning lead for major annual events, requiring the specialist to take on increasing levels of responsibility and strategic oversight. The success of these events will directly influence WhyHunger's funding capacity for its ongoing initiatives.
