The Monroe County Water Authority (MCWA) has received $1.09 million in federal funding to bolster its cybersecurity defenses. This comes as water systems in approximately a dozen other states have experienced
cyberattacks. Production Engineer Ken Naugle of MCWA stated that while the risk of a hack in the region is low, it is never zero. The MCWA supplies drinking water to about 800,000 customers across six counties, processing approximately 20 billion gallons of water annually through three treatment plants. The authority relies heavily on modern computer systems to automate operations, control remote facilities, and ensure continuous service. The secured funding, championed by Democratic Rep.
