A study published in Biological Conservation has found that using amber 1800 K LED lights can significantly reduce the attraction of insects compared to other lighting options. Conducted by researchers at the Leibniz Institute for the Analysis of Biodiversity
Change in Germany, the study tested different types of outdoor lighting at six rural railway stations within a German Dark Sky Reserve. The results showed that amber LEDs attracted 39% to 51% fewer insects than high-pressure sodium lamps and cool-white LEDs. The study highlights the impact of artificial lighting on insect populations, which are already under threat from habitat loss, pollution, and climate change.
