Teesside University’s Net Zero Industry Innovation Centre (NZIIC), the University of Western Australia (UWA), and the Centre of Decommissioning Australia (CoDA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a joint international hub aimed at accelerating the transition to net zero emissions in both the UK and Western Australia. This partnership seeks to leverage academic expertise, industry leadership, and government support to drive innovation in decarbonisation and local manufacturing. The collaboration will focus on three core research themes: industrial emissions reduction, circular economy, and knowledge exchange. The initiative targets heavy industries such as mining, oil & gas, and cement, aiming to develop and deploy carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) technologies. The MoU was signed at the NZIIC in Middlesbrough, a centre of excellence for net zero technologies.
