What's Happening?
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District has commenced a significant $11.6 million project to upgrade the electrical infrastructure at Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois. This initiative involves replacing a primary electrical substation, originally
built in 1975, with a modernized system to meet future energy demands. The project is a collaborative effort with the Rock Island Arsenal and the Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center (JMTC). The upgrade aims to ensure uninterrupted power supply, crucial for the arsenal's defense manufacturing operations. The new system will increase capacity to approximately 70,000KV and integrate backup generation, providing the energy security needed to maintain manufacturing lines. The construction is expected to be completed by November 2027, with a handover scheduled for May 2028.
