What's Happening?
The Forum of Young Global Leaders (YGL) is a community established by the World Economic Forum, comprising over 1,400 individuals from more than 120 countries. These leaders are recognized for their exceptional
contributions across various sectors, including business, education, activism, and public service. The YGL program aims to cultivate the next generation of strategic minds through leadership development programs, which include academic modules, immersive learning experiences, and global convenings. The 2025 cohort features 116 individuals under 40, representing nearly 50 countries, who are redefining leadership in a rapidly changing world. The community fosters a dynamic environment where diverse perspectives drive innovative solutions and meaningful collaboration.
Why It's Important?
The YGL program plays a crucial role in preparing future leaders to tackle complex global challenges. By bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds, the program encourages cross-cultural dialogue and collaboration, which are essential for addressing issues such as climate change, economic inequality, and technological disruption. The leaders involved in the YGL community are positioned to influence decision-making processes and drive positive change within their respective fields. This initiative not only benefits the participants but also has a broader impact on global society by promoting inclusive and sustainable development.
What's Next?
The YGL community will continue to expand and evolve, with new cohorts being selected annually. These leaders are expected to leverage their skills and networks to address pressing global issues and contribute to building a more equitable and sustainable future. As the program progresses, it will likely focus on enhancing its impact by fostering deeper collaborations among its members and with external stakeholders. The ongoing development of the YGL community will be instrumental in shaping the leadership landscape and influencing global policy and business practices.
Beyond the Headlines
The YGL program highlights the importance of nurturing young leaders who can navigate the complexities of a globalized world. It underscores the need for leadership that is adaptable, empathetic, and committed to the public good. The program also raises questions about how to best support emerging leaders in overcoming barriers to entry in decision-making spaces, particularly for those from underrepresented regions and sectors. By addressing these challenges, the YGL community can serve as a model for other leadership development initiatives worldwide.
