What's Happening?
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently met with senior officials from Nvidia to discuss the development and manufacturing of sovereign graphics processing units (GPUs) and high-end data processing devices
in India. Nvidia, which holds over 80% of the global GPU market, is a key player in supporting artificial intelligence technologies worldwide. The meeting focused on the potential for India to produce its own GPUs, with devices like the DGX Spark being highlighted for their performance capabilities. These GPUs are intended for use in various sectors, including railways, shipping, healthcare, and education, and are part of India's broader AI mission. The government has already deployed 38,000 GPUs at subsidized rates to support AI development in the country.
