Governor Brian Kemp has declared August as Shooting Sports Month in Georgia, recognizing the state's rich outdoor heritage and the significant economic impact of the shooting sports industry. This proclamation acknowledges the role of hunting and recreational
shooting in Georgia's history and culture. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division is encouraging residents to participate by visiting public shooting ranges and learning new skills. Georgia boasts over 45 public archery and shooting ranges, many located on public lands. In 2024, the shooting sports and hunting industry contributed approximately $2.7 billion to the state's economy and supported nearly 11,000 jobs. Additionally, in 2025, Georgia received over $19.2 million in conservation funding through the Pittman-Robertson Act, which is funded by sportsmen and women purchasing firearms and ammunition.
