A recent study conducted by researchers at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health has investigated the impact of dietary fat intake on health outcomes and longevity for men diagnosed with nonmetastatic prostate cancer in the U.S. The study, which
included nearly 5,000 men from the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study over a 32-year span, found a significant correlation between dietary fat sources and overall mortality. Men with the highest consumption of saturated fats from animal-derived sources, such as red meat, butter, and full-fat dairy, exhibited a 24% higher overall death rate compared to those with the lowest intake. Conversely, replacing these animal fats with plant-based and unsaturated fats, found in sources like olive oil and nuts, was associated with a significantly lower risk of overall death. This reduced risk was primarily driven by a decrease in cardiovascular and non-prostate cancer mortality.
