What's Happening?
The Pentagon is initiating a project to develop cost-effective, long-range weapons, known as Ground-Based Affordable Mass (GBAM) munitions, in response to the high costs associated with current long-range missiles like the Tomahawk. The Department of
Defense (DoD) aims to have these weapons ready for demonstration within three months and full-scale production within 18 months. The GBAM initiative is designed to provide affordable, scalable long-range effects, allowing military commanders to target a broader range of threats while preserving more expensive munitions for critical missions. The Defense Innovation Unit has launched the GBAM Challenge, inviting participants to submit proposals by August 5, with the potential for significant financial rewards and contracts for successful designs.
