What's Happening?
The SRE Network, a coalition dedicated to promoting safety, respect, and equity within Jewish communal organizations, is intensifying its efforts to address gender equity and leadership diversity. At a recent convening in New York City, the network outlined
its commitment to strengthening systems of harm prevention and response, advancing diverse women's leadership, and mobilizing men as partners in gender equity. Since its inception in 2018, SRE has invested over $7.4 million in projects aimed at creating equitable workplaces. The network emphasizes the importance of integrating gender equity into organizational culture and leadership, particularly in light of rising antisemitism and challenges to democratic norms.
Why It's Important?
The work of the SRE Network is crucial in fostering inclusive and equitable environments within Jewish organizations, which can serve as a model for other sectors. By addressing gender-based harm and promoting diverse leadership, SRE is helping to ensure that organizations are more resilient and reflective of the communities they serve. The network's initiatives are particularly timely given the current socio-political climate, where issues of equity and inclusion are increasingly at the forefront. The focus on engaging men as partners highlights the need for collective responsibility in achieving gender equity.
What's Next?
SRE Network plans to continue its efforts by expanding access to anti-harassment and anti-bias training, supporting leadership development, and engaging funders to sustain these initiatives. The network aims to create a Jewish communal landscape where safety, respect, and equity are integral to organizational operations. As SRE moves forward, it will likely focus on building partnerships and securing resources to support its mission. The success of these efforts could lead to broader cultural shifts within the Jewish community and beyond, promoting a more inclusive and equitable society.
