Newly inducted human resource professionals in Nigeria have been encouraged to actively prepare the nation's workforce for the challenges and opportunities presented by automation and emerging technologies. This call was made by Mallam Ahmed Gobir, President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, during the 66th Induction Ceremony in Lagos. Gobir emphasized the need for HR professionals to evolve from administrative roles to strategic stewards capable of shaping organizations and influencing national development. He highlighted the World Economic Forum's projection that by 2030, 92 million jobs will be displaced by automation, but 170 million new roles will be created globally. Gobir urged the inductees to adopt a mindset of stewardship, focusing on redeeming talent and enhancing organizational efficiency.
Why It's Important?
The emphasis on preparing for automation is crucial as it addresses the impending shift in job dynamics due to technological advancements. HR professionals play a vital role in equipping the workforce with the necessary skills to adapt to new roles created by automation. This transformation is significant for Nigeria's economic development, as it ensures that the workforce remains competitive and capable of meeting future demands. The proactive approach advocated by Gobir could lead to increased organizational efficiency and national development, positioning Nigeria to better handle global economic changes.
