Lt. Col. Barry Gasdek, a retired U.S. Army officer and Vietnam veteran from Laramie, Wyoming, is being recognized for his distinguished military career and ongoing advocacy for veterans. Gasdek served two consecutive tours in Vietnam, where he demonstrated
exceptional bravery, earning numerous accolades including the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, Bronze Star with a 'V' for valor and four oak leaf clusters, and the Purple Heart with an oak leaf cluster. During his service, he was wounded multiple times, rescued injured men under heavy fire, and led counterattacks against North Vietnamese forces. After Vietnam, Gasdek continued his military career, teaching ROTC at the University of Wyoming and later becoming Wyoming's first veteran services officer.
