Freddie Powell, a Commander and Warden in the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office, has announced his candidacy for Sheriff of Calcasieu Parish. Powell has a 24-year career in law enforcement, beginning at age 19 with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.
His experience spans various roles including Corrections, Safe School, Livestock Patrol, Marine Division, Underwater Criminal Investigations, Burglary and Theft, Financial Crimes, and Narcotics. He also served as a medic with the Combined Anti-Crime Task Force. Currently, he oversees Corrections, Narcotics, and Internal Affairs in his role as Commander and Warden. Powell was recognized as Investigator of the Year in 2022. He is a long-time resident of Moss Bluff, where he was born, raised, and continues to live with his family. His father served as the Park Manager for Sam Houston Jones State Park for 23 years, instilling in him a commitment to community service.
