What's Happening?
The Cleveland Talent Alliance has released a study indicating that more than half of recent Northeast Ohio college graduates are choosing to remain in the region post-graduation. This marks a significant increase in retention rates, which have been steadily
rising since 2020. The current rate stands at 51%, up from 47% in 2020. The Alliance aims to increase this figure to 55% by 2030. The study, conducted by Team NEO, highlights the importance of retaining graduates to bolster the local workforce. The Cleveland Job Board has been relaunched to connect young professionals with local employers, offering over 2,000 job listings and resources for career development.
Why It's Important?
The retention of college graduates in Northeast Ohio is crucial for the region's economic growth. Each percentage increase in retention represents approximately 300 new professionals entering the workforce, addressing the area's need for skilled labor. The initiative by the Cleveland Talent Alliance is designed to counteract workforce shortages and support local businesses by providing a steady stream of qualified candidates. This effort not only strengthens the local economy but also enhances the region's appeal as a destination for young professionals seeking career opportunities.
What's Next?
The Cleveland Talent Alliance plans to host its annual Winter Career Expo on December 17, aiming to connect students and recent graduates with regional companies offering internships and full-time positions. This event is part of the Alliance's broader strategy to increase graduate retention and support local economic development. The continued focus on improving job placement and career resources is expected to further boost retention rates and contribute to the region's growth.
