What's Happening?
DE-CIX, a major internet exchange operator, has expanded its operations in Brazil by launching a new interconnection hub in Rio de Janeiro. This follows the successful establishment of operations in São
Paulo. The Rio de Janeiro hub features distributed infrastructure across multiple data centers and is now operational, with the first ten networks connected. DE-CIX's expansion provides local companies, internet service providers, cloud platforms, and corporate networks with access to a neutral, high-performance platform for direct traffic exchange and multi-cloud interconnection. The infrastructure allows networks in Rio to directly access networks peering at DE-CIX São Paulo, DE-CIX New York, and other global DE-CIX ecosystems, ensuring faster, more secure, and stable connections.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of DE-CIX into Rio de Janeiro is significant for Brazil's digital ecosystem, enhancing connectivity and data exchange capabilities. This development offers local businesses and service providers improved access to global networks, potentially boosting economic growth and technological innovation in the region. The presence of a high-performance internet exchange can attract more digital services and cloud providers, fostering a competitive and efficient digital market. Additionally, the improved infrastructure supports faster and more reliable AI capabilities, benefiting various sectors reliant on digital technologies.
