What's Happening?
Sichuan Kelun-Biotech Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd. announced the results of their Phase III OptiTROP-Lung05 study at the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting. The study evaluated sacituzumab tirumotecan (sac-TMT) in combination
with pembrolizumab as a first-line treatment for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with PD-L1 TPS ≥1%. The study involved 413 patients and demonstrated significant improvements in progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) compared to pembrolizumab alone. The combination therapy showed a median PFS not reached versus 5.7 months for pembrolizumab alone, with a 12-month PFS rate of 62.4% versus 29.0%. The study also reported a positive trend in OS and manageable safety profiles.
Why It's Important?
The positive results from the OptiTROP-Lung05 study could lead to a new treatment option for patients with advanced NSCLC, potentially improving survival rates and quality of life. The combination of sac-TMT and pembrolizumab represents a promising advancement in cancer therapy, particularly for patients with PD-L1-positive tumors. This development underscores the importance of continued research and innovation in oncology, offering hope for more effective treatments and better patient outcomes. The study's findings, published in The Lancet, highlight the clinical and academic value of this research.
