What's Happening?
The Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP), supported by the World Bank and implemented by the Tribal Welfare Department of Tripura, is significantly improving agricultural
livelihoods in tribal areas. Women farmers from the Yakhili Producer Group in Mandwi R.D. Block have experienced a notable increase in productivity and confidence. Under the guidance of Mr. Hiralal Debbarma, Cluster Coordinator for Agriculture, and TSA Experts, the group successfully harvested 78 kg of Bitter Gourd on October 25, which sold for ₹70 per kg, providing substantial profits. TRESP's Agriculture Vertical, active in 23 tribal-concentrated Blocks, focuses on capacity building, scientific cultivation, improved market linkage, and income enhancement for rural households. This initiative is fostering economic empowerment and resilience among tribal women farmers.
Why It's Important?
The TRESP initiative is crucial for enhancing the economic status of tribal women in Tripura, providing them with the tools and knowledge necessary for sustainable agricultural practices. By increasing productivity and market access, the project is helping to lift rural households out of poverty and improve their quality of life. The success of the Yakhili Producer Group serves as a model for other communities, demonstrating the potential of localized technical support and community-driven agricultural planning. This empowerment of tribal women not only contributes to gender equality but also strengthens the overall economic fabric of the region.
