What's Happening?

candidates have officially qualified to run for the office: Gwen Agho, Greta Mack Harris, Darla Palmer, Marvin L. Sanders, and Wendy Wilson White. The winner of this special election will serve the remaining 14 months of the term that Owens won in 2023, which concludes in January 2028. A regular election for a new four-year term will subsequently be held in 2027. Currently, Brad McCullouch is running the office, having been appointed by Governor Tate Reeves in July after Owens' resignation, but he is ineligible to seek the remainder of the term due to his residency outside the district.
