The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), an entity within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has initiated a new research program focused on 'intrinsic capacity' as a measure of healthy aging. Intrinsic capacity, formally
defined by the World Health Organization in 2015, is a holistic metric encompassing an individual's physical and mental capabilities, including cognition, locomotion, sensory capacity, psychological well-being, and vitality. The program's primary goal is to validate intrinsic capacity as a reliable indicator for assessing the effectiveness of interventions aimed at extending healthspan.
