What's Happening?
Pupils from Broughton-in-Furness Church of England Primary School participated in a hands-on conservation event at Hardknott Forest in the Lake District. Supported by the Lake District Foundation's Real Hedge Fund, the event allowed students to engage
in activities such as setting up camera traps, planting willow pegs, and exploring the woodland. These activities are part of the Upper Duddon Landscape Recovery Project, which aims to restore habitats and improve environmental quality in the area. The initiative provides practical conservation experience and educates students on the importance of environmental stewardship.
Why It's Important?
This initiative highlights the importance of involving young people in conservation efforts, fostering a sense of responsibility and connection to the environment. By participating in such projects, students gain a practical understanding of ecological systems and the impact of human actions on nature. This hands-on experience is crucial in developing future generations who are informed and proactive about environmental issues. The project also contributes to the broader goals of habitat restoration and biodiversity conservation, which are essential for maintaining ecological balance and combating climate change.
