The National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) has highlighted the Sacramento International Airport (SMF) Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) in its August feature for the 2026 wall calendar. The photo, taken by Devin Payne from Boston ATCT (BOS),
showcases the Sacramento facility. The SMF ATCT, which opened in October 1967, is a 130-foot-tall tower that remains operational today. It is classified as a Level 6 tower and employs 22 NATCA members. In the previous year, Sacramento International Airport served over 13.9 million passengers, connecting them to California's state capital and other Northern California landmarks. NATCA annually designs and distributes these calendars, featuring photos of air traffic control facilities submitted by its members, to active and retired members free of charge. Members wishing to receive a 2026 calendar must request one each year through their MyNATCA profile.
