What's Happening?
MontanaFair at MetraPark in Billings is implementing a new electronic ticketing system for rides, allowing visitors to use their phones or self-serve kiosks instead of traditional paper tickets. The system, named Fun Tagg, enables visitors to purchase
credits for rides via kiosks or an app. Wristbands offering unlimited rides for a day or cards loaded with credits can be bought at eight kiosk locations within the fairgrounds. The $12 admission fee remains unchanged, and food and games are handled separately from the ride credit system. Katherine Petree, co-owner of Thomas Carnival, stated that the system aims to improve efficiency while maintaining the fair's traditional experience. The system also provides data on ride popularity, helping organizers understand visitor preferences.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of an electronic ticketing system at MontanaFair represents a significant shift towards modernizing visitor experiences at large events. By adopting digital solutions, the fair aims to streamline operations and reduce the need for physical tickets, which can be cumbersome and less efficient. This move could set a precedent for other fairs and events, encouraging them to adopt similar technologies to enhance visitor convenience and operational efficiency. Additionally, the data collected through the system can provide valuable insights into visitor behavior, allowing organizers to tailor future events to better meet attendee preferences. This technological advancement aligns with broader trends in event management, where digital solutions are increasingly used to improve customer experiences.
What's Next?
As the MontanaFair opens, organizers will likely monitor the implementation of the new system closely to address any operational challenges that arise. Visitor feedback will be crucial in assessing the system's effectiveness and identifying areas for improvement. If successful, the electronic ticketing system could be expanded to other events managed by Thomas Carnival or similar organizations. Additionally, the data collected on ride popularity may influence future decisions regarding ride offerings and fairground layouts. Stakeholders, including fair organizers and local businesses, will be interested in the system's impact on visitor satisfaction and overall attendance.
