What's Happening?
Sisters Kayla and Mara Winfrey have continued their annual tradition of running a hot chocolate stand to support Toys for Tots, marking its 22nd year. The event, held on Hillview Road, has become a community staple, drawing families and local residents
who contribute donations in exchange for hot chocolate. The Homewood police department also supported the initiative with a $2,000 donation. The tradition began when the sisters were just 2 and 4 years old and has grown significantly over the years. The event not only raises funds for Toys for Tots but also fosters community spirit and engagement.
Why It's Important?
The Winfrey sisters' hot chocolate stand exemplifies the power of community-driven initiatives in supporting charitable causes. By engaging local residents and fostering a sense of community, the event successfully raises funds for Toys for Tots, which provides toys to children in need during the holiday season. This tradition highlights the impact of grassroots efforts in addressing social issues and the importance of community involvement in charitable activities. The event also serves as a model for how small, consistent efforts can lead to significant contributions over time.
