A retiree from Sao Joao da Boa Vista was deceived by an AI scammer who impersonated British singer James Blunt. The scammer used AI-generated photos and videos to convince the 57-year-old woman that she was in a romantic relationship with the singer.
Over the course of a year, the scammer extracted more than $10,000 from her by fabricating stories about financial distress and needing money for travel. The woman realized the deception when she attempted to meet the scammer, who never appeared. Upon further investigation, she discovered that the real James Blunt was touring in Europe at the time.
