What's Happening?
Springfield, Missouri, has introduced a unique attraction on Route 66—a musical road that plays 'America the Beautiful' as vehicles drive over it. Located on St. Louis Street near the Queen’s Gate 66 installation, the road features rumble strips that produce
musical notes when driven over at 30 mph. This initiative is part of Visit Springfield's efforts to enhance the Route 66 experience and is set to officially open during the Queen’s Gate 66 event on May 1. The project, developed in collaboration with Route 66 Musical Roads LLC and supported by the City of Springfield Public Works Department, aims to provide a memorable and engaging experience for travelers.
Why It's Important?
The musical road is a creative addition to Route 66, a historic and iconic American highway. By offering a novel experience, Springfield aims to attract more visitors, encouraging them to explore the city and its attractions. This initiative not only celebrates the cultural significance of Route 66 but also contributes to local tourism and economic development. As the U.S. approaches its 250th anniversary, such projects highlight the importance of preserving and enhancing historical landmarks. The musical road exemplifies how innovation can be used to revitalize interest in traditional travel routes, potentially boosting local businesses and community engagement.
