The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is actively working to reduce train traffic and improve the efficiency of New York City's subway system. The MTA has identified 25 key locations for upgrades as part of its Capital Plan, focusing on areas
with complex track layouts and outdated infrastructure. One significant site is DeKalb Avenue in Brooklyn, where 18 switches, installed during President Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration, manage the flow of 300,000 daily riders across five train routes. The MTA has already begun upgrading signals on the B and D lines and is collaborating with contractors to redesign track curves for faster train passage. Additionally, a successful swap of the F and M lines at Queens Plaza has reduced congestion, leading to less crowded trains and increased ridership in western Queens.
