What's Happening?
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is recruiting for the position of TAAT Country Engagement Officer – East Africa Regional Coordinator. This role is crucial for advancing agricultural
transformation in East Africa by engaging strategically with countries, aligning policies, and scaling proven agricultural technologies. The position is part of the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) program, funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB), which aims to double productivity in crops, livestock, and fish, reaching over 40 million smallholder farmers across Africa. The program is designed to integrate validated agricultural technologies into large-scale national and regional investment programs, with IITA serving as the executing agency. The role involves leading engagement activities with governments and public-sector decision-makers, supporting the integration of TAAT technologies into agricultural projects, and strengthening national seed systems.
Why It's Important?
This recruitment is significant as it supports the broader goal of enhancing food security and reducing poverty in Africa. By embedding TAAT-vetted technologies into AfDB-funded agricultural investments, the initiative aims to lift 130 million people out of poverty and generate an additional 120 million metric tons of food. The role of the TAAT Country Engagement Officer is pivotal in ensuring that these technologies are adopted at scale, which could lead to sustainable agricultural growth and improved livelihoods. The position also involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including CGIAR centers, national research institutions, and private sector partners, which is essential for the successful implementation of the program.
What's Next?
The selected candidate will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, and will work closely with AfDB task managers, regional sector managers, and the TAAT Programme Management Unit. The role requires strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills, as well as experience in seed systems and agricultural policy engagement. The contract is for one year, renewable based on performance and funding. Applications are encouraged from women, and the process involves submitting a cover letter, detailed curriculum vitae, and contact details for professional referees through IITA’s online application system.
