Albania has deployed its first firefighting aircraft to combat wildfires across the country, as announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama. The aircraft is part of an enhanced firefighting strategy during the challenging month of August. Despite being better
prepared than in previous years, Rama cautioned that extreme fires could still surpass national response capabilities, as seen in other European countries. The Media and Information Agency reported 14 wildfire outbreaks in the past 12 hours, with five still active. Emergency teams, consisting of 182 personnel, 19 fire engines, and three Air Force helicopters, are actively working to suppress these fires. Operations are ongoing in several areas, including Mount Dajti and the village of Riban in Mallakastër. Civil protection authorities continue to monitor and coordinate efforts to contain and extinguish the remaining fires.
