What's Happening?
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has announced the availability of hunting and trapping licenses for the 2026-27 season. These licenses, valid from September 1 through August 31 of the following year, can be purchased
online, by phone, or through DEC license-issuing agents. This year, hunters can apply for up to four antlerless-deer permits, with two available in areas with limited availability and two in areas with unlimited permits. Applications for these limited permits are open until October 1. DEC Commissioner Amanda Lefton highlighted the abundance of deer in certain areas and the recent regulatory changes aimed at managing deer populations and improving habitat conditions.
