What's Happening?
The Wellness Youth Council (WYC) and the Peace and Wellness Center (PAWS) organized a Stress Less Week from December 8 to 12 to help students manage stress before finals. The week featured various activities such as knitting, crocheting, snow globe making,
and a presentation by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) on mental health awareness. Students also interacted with therapy dogs from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and participated in bracelet-making sessions. These activities provided students with a safe space to relax and de-stress, offering them tools and strategies to cope with academic pressures.
Why It's Important?
Stress Less Week is crucial as it addresses the mental health challenges faced by students during high-pressure periods like finals. By providing a range of activities, the initiative promotes mental well-being and encourages students to take breaks and engage in self-care. This approach not only helps in reducing anxiety but also fosters a supportive community where students can openly discuss mental health issues. The involvement of organizations like NAMI and SPCA highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting mental health awareness. Such initiatives can serve as a model for other educational institutions aiming to support student well-being.
