What's Happening?
A recent report highlights the challenges faced by Holocaust survivors in Israel in accessing medical care due to technological barriers and logistical issues. Lema’anam, a nonprofit organization, is addressing these challenges by providing specialized
medical care directly to the homes of survivors. The organization, supported by over 2,000 volunteer physicians, has facilitated more than 5,000 medical transports and conducted around 10,000 medical treatments in 2025. The report emphasizes the importance of ensuring accessible and dignified medical care for the aging survivor population, many of whom are homebound and live in buildings without elevators.
Why It's Important?
The initiative by Lema’anam is crucial in addressing the healthcare needs of Holocaust survivors, a vulnerable group facing significant barriers to accessing medical services. The use of mobile clinics and home visits helps overcome the challenges posed by long travel times and the digital divide. This model of care not only improves the quality of life for survivors but also sets a precedent for addressing healthcare accessibility issues for other elderly populations. The initiative highlights the need for tailored healthcare solutions that consider the unique circumstances of different patient groups.
